Youth Drum Making Class
Service Description
Create a Native American style hand drum using deer and elk rawhide. The finished drum will be 12 inches in diameter. You will also make a drum mallet to go with your drum. The materials include deer or elk rawhide drum heads and lace, maple frames, an ash stick for the mallet, and felt and buckskin for the mallet head. You will also receive suede ties for padding the handle on the drum. You will have the opportunity to test your drum mallet on a completed drum and to learn simple drum rhythms. Drums will still be wet when you take them home. They should dry away from direct sunlight for three days before you play them. Once dry they can be decorated with acrylic paint or permanent markers. Please bring an old bath towel to work on - and to wrap your drum for the trip home. Preregistration by June 20th is required for this class.
