Creative Workspace Guidelines

These guidelines outline expectations for anyone teaching or hosting a class, workshop, or meetup in FAA’s Workspace at Underground.
Following these standards helps ensure the space remains safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone.
If you plan to rent the Workspace for a class, please review these guidelines before submitting your proposal.
What FAA Provides
FAA supports instructors by providing:

Use of the Workspace at Underground during your approved time

Access instructions and opening/closing procedures
-
Calendar scheduling
-
Optional calendar listing if your class is open to the public
FAA does not provide registration, payment processing, communication with students, or marketing for Workspace Rentals.
Instructor Responsibilities
Instructors renting the Workspace must:

Manage all registration, communication, and payment for students

Bring all required tools, supplies, and teaching materials
-
Supervise all participants, especially children
-
Follow FAA Workspace Safety Guidelines

Reset and clean the Workspace after the class
-
Accurately represent FAA’s mission and values during instruction
If hosting a public class, instructors must also help maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Workspace Safety Guidelines
General Safety

Keep walkways, aisles, and exits clear.
-
Clean spills promptly to prevent slipping.
-
Ensure cords, tools, and supplies do not create tripping hazards.
-
Children must be supervised at all times by the instructor or designated adults.
Materials & Equipment

Candles may be present in Underground for ambiance, but may NOT be used as part of instruction or hands-on student activity. Candles must remain attended while lit and fully extinguished before leaving.

Do not use solvents, aerosols, spray fixative, resin, or materials with strong fumes without FAA approval.

Use messy materials (glitter, sand, powders) in contained ways and clean thoroughly afterward.

Hot glue guns may be used, but require close supervision with kids.

Handle sharp tools responsibly and keep them out of reach of minors.
Workspace Use
-
Use table coverings for messy or wet media.
-
Do not attach items to walls, doors, or windows without FAA approval.
-
Keep sinks and counters clean; do not leave tools or materials soaking.
-
Food and beverages—including BYOB—are allowed. Instructors must manage them safely and clean up afterward.
Health & Cleanliness

Wipe down tables and counters after use.
-
Sweep if needed.
-
Remove food waste to the outdoor bin.
-
Return furniture to its standard layout.
-
Turn off all lights and lock the front door.
Emergencies
-
Call 911 for urgent emergencies.
-
Report injuries, incidents, or damage to FAA as soon as possible.

A first-aid kit is available in Underground and is located on the shelf in the Workspace .
Opening the Workspace
-
Retrieve the key via access code as instructed by FAA.
-
Unlock the door.
-
Turn on lights and check that the space is safe for entry.
-
Set up tables, chairs, and materials as needed.
Closing the Workspace
-
Reset tables and seating to the standard layout.
-
Clean all surfaces and sweep if necessary.
-
Remove trash, especially food waste.
-
Confirm that all candles (if present) are extinguished.
-
Turn off all lights.
-
Secure the door lock.
-
Place the key back in the key box.
-
Notify FAA of any issues with the space.
