Create Your Own Elk Drum

Service Description

Join us at Underground to create your own 14" or 15" elk-hide drum and a drum mallet. The drums are made on durable maple frames. All supplies are included, but you are welcome to bring your own stick or object to use as the handle of the mallet if you prefer. All of the difficult preparation work has been done for you, giving almost anyone the opportunity to create an heirloom drum. Elk hide, which is used for our drumheads, gives us beautiful, light-brown hides with wonderful tones. The vibration of elk is instrumental in opening the third chakra, where we carry our fears, especially those that interfere with our pure will. Elk helps to cleanse and purify, leading us to unity with spirit and our original grace. Drums will take three to five days to dry after you take them home. Please wear comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting a little wet or exposed to glue, and bring an old bath or beach towel to use as a work surface and to wrap your drum in for transport. Registration closes two days before the class date to allow time for material preparation. The facilitator for the workshop is Dawn Wrobel. Dawn has been a drum maker for more than 20 years and teaches drum-making workshops throughout the United States.
