Service Description
Still Life Painting with Acrylics is a four-part class series where students will learn to paint from life using acrylic paint. Students will build skills in observation, gesture, measurement, color mixing, light, and shadow while developing their own artistic style. Classes will include drapery, organic objects, and man-made objects. Students will learn to slow down, look closely, and translate what they see into a painting through careful observation and intentional choices. Class 1: Gesture, Observation, and Measurement Students will begin with warm-up exercises focused on gesture and observation. They will learn how to establish placement, scale, proportion, and structure before painting. Students will use comparative measurement, angles, alignment, and positive and negative space to begin a still life composition. Class 2: Light, Shadow, and Color Students will study how light affects objects and how to identify highlights, light areas, core shadows, reflected light, and cast shadows. They will learn how to mix and layer acrylic colors to create form, depth, and value relationships. Class 3: Adjusting, Observing, and Correcting Students will learn how to look critically at their paintings and make adjustments as they work. They will compare their paintings to the still life and practice correcting proportion, placement, shape, color, value, light, shadow, and composition. Class 4: Artist’s Choice and Final Painting Students will combine the techniques from previous classes while focusing on their own strengths and artistic style. The final class will be dedicated to completing and refining a finished still life painting.
